Should asylum claims be rejected if applicants hide their identity or abuse the asylum process?

This vote introduced stricter measures against abuse of the asylum system. Authorities could refuse to fully process some asylum claims when applicants concealed or lied about their identity, failed without good reason to provide identity documents, or appeared to apply for asylum only to delay deportation. Exceptions remained where there were indications that the person faced persecution.
Supporters argued that these measures would prevent misuse of the asylum system and allow authorities to focus resources on genuine refugees. Opponents argued that people fleeing persecution may have legitimate reasons for lacking documents and could be denied a fair examination of their asylum claim.

The proposal was approved by Swiss voters.
