Should asylum laws be reformed to tighten rules and manage large refugee crises?

This vote introduced a broad reform of asylum law. It tightened parts of the asylum system while also establishing temporary protection for groups of people fleeing wars or other serious threats, allowing them to receive protection without each person immediately going through the normal individual asylum process. Supporters argued that the reform would make the asylum system more effective and better able to handle large refugee crises. Opponents argued that some of the stricter rules could deny protection to vulnerable asylum seekers.

The proposal was approved by Swiss voters.
